My name is Herve Mwamba. I am a UK citizen of Congolese origins and the founder of Leopard Republic—an Afro-Kongo-centric fashion brand like no other. Leopard Republic is inspired by the rich culture of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and partly crafted in the heart of the country itself.
Our iconic pieces capture the vibrant essence of the DRC, blending bold prints, striking colours, and meaningful messages that resonate deeply with Congolese identity. Leopard Republic is more than just a brand; it’s a statement—a reawakening of pride, culture, and the beauty of being Congolese, African, and human.
Why Leopard Republic?
The name “Leopard Republic” is deeply rooted in Congolese heritage. The leopard is a symbol of power and authority in our culture: it’s the emblem of the national football team and an integral part of traditional chiefdoms, where chiefs wear leopard skins to signify their status and leadership.
The inspiration also comes from a desire for inclusivity. This name unites rather than divides and inspires pride for the Congolese and anyone seeking a unique and meaningful connection to African heritage.
Redefining Congolese Fashion:
For years, I searched for creative designs that truly captured the imagination of the Congolese people—something well-designed and deeply reflective of our identity. While I respect those who design for our national sports teams for example, I’ve always felt “It could be better.” I wanted something you’d wear with pride that genuinely represents the spirit of La Sape—elegance, style, and cultural significance.
Leopard Republic is the answer to that vision.
